GALLERIADELE Sustainability Ambition

As a designer and manufacturer in the fashion industry, it is our mission to be intentional and mindful about creating products in a sustainable fashion. We believe that this begins with creating high-quality products that our customers can value and wear for a long time. Our first priority is to the quality of our products in how they look, how they are made, and what materials are used. Whenever possible, materials are sourced locally or from deadstock in order to reduce the global supply chain. By implementing unique digital IDs associated with each garment, we are providing supply chain transparency and promoting a circular economy.

Why Made in Canada

One of the core brand values of GALLERIADELE is to be manufactured in Canada. There are three primary reasons why this is important. First, as the brand is headquartered in Canada, it allows the brand to be more hands-on in the production process. Second, by not only manufacturing in Canada, but also sourcing materials from Canadian manufacturers and suppliers, we are supporting our local communities. Finally, reducing the global supply chain has significant environmental benefits.

The Importance of Slow Fashion

Fast fashion has dominated the e-commerce industry for the last decade. With production advances in textile manufacturing, garments can be produced rapidly and cheaply. This feeds the insatiable consumer’s demand for the latest trends in fashion and contributes to “throw-away” culture. Unfortunately, this fast manufacturing of low quality products leads to short product life cycles, unsustainable consumption, and substantial environmental and social impacts.1 For example, the textile industry accounts for 20% of the global industrial water pollution2 and the global fashion industry accounts for 10% of the world’s carbon emissions.3 Fast fashion contributes considerably more to these statistics; for example, garments which are worn less than 5 times produce 400% more carbon emissions than those worn more than 50 times.3 Not only does the method of fast fashion contribute to water pollution and carbon emissions, but the use of low quality synthetic fibers produces damaging gasses, contributes to plastic microfiber pollution, and can take over 200 years to decompose (not to mention contain chemicals that are harmful to human health). The solution is to change consumer and industry habits to promote sustainable production and ethical consumption. Supporting slow fashion promotes more ethical sourcing and production techniques, better working conditions and wages, reduces waste, and lowers the overall carbon footprint.4 Furthermore, reducing the number of stages in the garment manufacturing supply chain by supporting domestically manufactured items will significantly reduce the detrimental environmental impact of the fashion industry.
